London Trip

This year as a school trip we went to London, England. In the begining of the year the trip had been cancelled. But with the help of John Asenci the trip was made possible. The trip was a lot of fun and a great class expirence.

On the first day we arrived at London Stanstead Airport and went directly to Vitoria Station. Our Hotel was located at just 5 minutes from Vitroria Staion, making it very comfortable to move around London. The Hotel, Airways Inn, was ver comfortable and had a nice breakfest. After we settled in at the Hotel we went for lunch. We went to Subway at a nearby Mall. As soon as we finished we went to the Underground. We took the Tube to Camden Town and Portobello Market. These to areas were very fun and we purchased several things. After the Markets we went back to the hotel and to Piccidily Circus for dinner. I had dinner at a English Restaurant with others from the class. I had Sausage and Mash, it was really good.

The following day we went to Speakers Corner in Hyde Park. Speakers corner is the place where people go to express their ideas. That was really fun, because I got to debate important political and social problems facing our world. After visiting and taking a walk around Hyde Park we went to Piccidily Circus to go and see the Play Hair. The play was very amusing. The play is about Hippies and their fight for freedom. They sang songs and did funny skits. After the play we had free time, so I went, with others, to Oxford Circus. Oxford Circus is near Piccdily so we walked there. On the way we saw many cool stores and places. That evening for dinner we had Chinese at Piccidily Circus.

On Sunday we returned to Hyde Park, from there we wnet on a walk to Bukingham Place to watch the changing of the guards. That was an incredible expirence. After that we had lunch and went to the London Expirence, which is a haunted house, which explains history too! From there we went to the London Eye where we got an amazing view of London and the Big Ben. Later during the evening we had free time, so we each went our seperate ways and met later at the hotel.

Monday morning we went to the British Museum. It was amazing, there were so many different things to see that we did not have time to see it all. After the British we had free time, so we went to Trocadero which is a large arcade, the largest in the world! Then we went to the cinema to see a movie, Hot Tube Time Machine, which was aamusing movie but overall not very good. For dinner we went to the Hard Rock Cafe, there I got a picture taken with Kiss's base, and I also saw Kieth Richard Guitar, I touched Richard guitar!!!!!!

Overall London was a great class trip. We had lots of fun and it was expirence which we will never forget!

Video Project

My idea for the video project is "Life of Fly", a documentry about a day in the life of a fly. The story would begin with the birth of the fly and continue to show the day of life in Bilbao. The camera would follow the fly and sometimes the camera lens would show us "Fly-Vision". The story would end with a twist ending which is yet to be revelaed. My materials for the project will be a little modle of a fly, my sony video camera, the internet, and finally to edit the video with "Final Cut Studio".

Open Source Initiative

The OSI, which stands for Open Source Initiative, is an organisation which promotes open source software.

The organisation was founded by Bruce Perens and Eris S. Raymond, in february 1998. Eric S. Raymond is the person most identified in the OSI, he was president from its founding until February 2005. The current president is Michael Tiemann.
In 1997 Eric S. Raymond presented a work on engineering of software, which was trying to show the advantages of engineering.

At the beginning of 1998, Netscape Communications Corporation together with Raymond, published the source code of their product as free software, giving hard competition with the software Internet Explorer of Microsoft.

A group of people who were interested in the free software decided to introduce a term of marketing for the free software, and positioned it as amicably for business and with less ideological load in their competition with the propietary software. This created the term Open Source (opened code)

GNU, linux, Apache

GNU

GNU is a Unix-like operating system created and funded by the Free Software Foundation. One of the goals of the Free Software Foundation was an operating system composed entirely of free software. Many pieces, such as shells, utilities, and compilers were created for this purpose. The GNU operating system has yet to be fully completed, due to slow development and debates about design goals. Most of the programs created for GNU have been ported to other softwares and operating systems, most notably Linux.

Linux

Linux is a software that was designed to provide personal computer users a free or very low-cost operating system comparable to traditional and usually more expensive systems. Linux is a very fast-performing system which provides many feautures already avalible on other systems. To complete the operating system, team members made use of system components developed by members of the for the GNU Project. A great resource that comes with Linux is that Linux users form a tight community. There are numerous chat rooms, mailing lists and discussion forums with many knowledgeable people who can help you with your problems.

Apache

Apache is a public domain Web server developed by a loosely knit group of programmers. Public domain refers to any program that is not copyrighted. Public-domain software is free and can be used without restrictions.Because it was developed from existing NCSA code plus various patches, it was called a patchy server - hence the name Apache Server.

As a result of its sophisticated features, excellent performance, and low price (it's free), Apache has become the world's most popular Web server. By some estimates, it is used to host more than 50% of all Web sites in the world. The original version of Apache was written for UNIX, but there are now versions that run under OS/2, Windows and other platforms. Apache is a large sucess, considering that the Apache Group isn't even a company. Instead, it's a group of contributors who propose and approve changes to the code by voting.

The Apple iPad is the new revoltuionary devive
created by Apple. On January 27, 2010 the product was anouced, as the newst technology. Full 9.7-inch multi-touch screen with 1024 x 768 resolution. It measures 7.5 x 9.6 inches and is only half an inch thick. Also it only weighs a pound and a half. According to Apple it has a 10 hour battery life. But even after all of this wonderfull stuff I don´t see what all the hype is about, it is only a iPhone with a larger screen, and its really expensive. I would except more creativty from Apple. But either way it is a wonderfull product.

Open Office

OpenOffice is a inuative software which allows any one who has some computer developing experience to edit  improve the software, by making changes to the software. This program is free allowing anyone to enjoy a program which is extremely similar to Microsoft Word, Power point or any other of the programs. But there are key differences to both programs of presentation.

In OpenOffice Word Processor you can perform similar  tasks as in Microsoft Word, such as changing formats or other structure changes to the document. But in OpenOffice, the program is always being updated so any errors in the previous version is fixed. Also since OpenOffice is free your version of OpenOffice is always up to date, but in Microsoft you have to pay for the new updates. A important difference between Word Processor and Microsoft Word is the structure. I believe that in Microsoft Word the Structure is a lot more user friendly, while in Word Processor the structure is more rough and difficult. Hopefully with future updates the program will become easier.

The program Calc from OpenOffice is a software similar to Microsoft's Excel. Both systems provide help with creating graphs and spreadsheets. Both let you create a good presentation in spreadsheet or graph format. Although I am only expirenced with excel and I have never used Calc, but by what I have been told Calc is better than Excel.

A OpenOffice program which is similair to Microsoft Powerpoint is Impress. This program allows you to create powerpoints. Impress lets you spice up the powerpoint with designs photos and cool formats. I personally prefere Microsoft Powerpoint because it has a familiar format which is extremely user friendly. It also has many features not availble in powerpoint.

You need 128MB to download OpenOffice and 20MB for each application. All Openoffice programs are compatible with Microsofts programs.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a Americain holiday inwhich we celebrate the event were the Native Americains gave the Pilgrims from England help. The Pilgrims came to America to escape religous prosecution in England, they left for America with little idea of what waited for them. They faced harsh weather, and they did not know how to cultivate the land. They were starving, and the Pilgrims feared that the harsh winter coming ahead would kill them all. The Native Amercains helped them by supplying them and teaching them how to survive in the harsh terrain.

On the last Thursday of November, we celebrate Thanksgiving with a large feast which includes traditional amercain foods, such as apple pie, pumkin, stuffing, and turkey. There are also parades and other celbrations. On this day we give thanks to all who have helped us and to the Native Amercains who helped the Pilgrims.

zalacain el aventurero

This weekend we had a field trip based around the novel Zalacain el Aventurero. During the trip we followed the novel, for the tripo we all had to choose a location that occurs around the novel. I choose San Jean Pied de Port, a small town in france in the mountains.

San Jean Pied de Port is a location along El Camino de Santiago, it also seved as a very important location in medivel times. This town served as a stragitic fort location for the Kingdom of Navarra. It also served as a adminsitrative capital for Navarra´s territory of Ultrapuertos. In the 17 century San Jean Pied de Port became part of France. San Jean Pied de Port is a well preserved part of history. It contains a wall with several amazing doors and important churches.
San Jean Pied de Port also has a Castle on a hill which offers great views of the surronding area. Today San Jean Pied de Port is a beatifull town full of amazing places and great tales.

Summer Vacation

This Summer me and my family returned to Spain for the Summer. We usually come to Spain every summer to visit family and friends. We came to Spain in July and went directly to Bilbao were we spent two weeks there. In Bilbao we visited our cousins, Aunts, uncles and grandma. We spent a lot of time with them, going to the beach, or doing other fun stuff around Bilbao. Me, my two sisters and my brother did a surf camp at Sopelana, it was fun to surf all together and have a warm drink at the bar at the beach.

After enjoying a great time in Bilbao, we headed towards Navarra to family's farm/ There my entire family by my moms side was there, I really liked being together with all of them and doing trips with them. The farm is for cows so me and my brothers, sisters, and cousins did Bull fighting but with the cows. That was really fun and then in the afternoon we usually went to the pool at our house or went on a little trip to visit some landmark. We spent three weeks there and after we headed out towards el mar menor.

There we do a lot of sailing, we have a boat there so does my two uncles. We pretty much spent the day in the boat sailing around and at night we would go out for a walk and ice cream. There my family from my dads side was there and we had lots of fun with our cousins. The last week of summer we spent in madrid with friends and more family.
